DNA tests often help shed light on breed mixes and genetic traits. But, what would you do if you learned something about your dog you never expected?

Doggy DNA tests have grown significantly in popularity in recent years, often revealing interesting information about the make-up of our canine companions.

In the case of Wally's owners, things didn't quite work out they way they had planned!

What is Wally?

Wally was rescued around 5 years ago, having been abandoned at a petrol station in Georgia.

Shelter staff described him as an Anatolian Shepherd, Border Collie mix, and his owners were convinced that this was the perfect guess. So convinced, in fact, that they didn't even believe they needed a DNA test to prove it.

"I don't need this", explains Wally's devoted owner. "Because I know my dog is an Anatolian Shepherd and a Border Collie mix. And I'm going to be right".

Other family members also took their own guesses, including a Husky and an Afghan Hound

The results they were waiting for... but never expected

Finally, results day arrived, and the family gathered for a DNA reveal party in Wally's honour.

With much anticipation, the results were shared with the group... Surprisingly, Wally had no Anatolian Shepherd or Bordier Collie in him at all!

Instead, he has breed traits of a Great Pyrenees, Boxer, Labrador Retriever and even a Miniature Schnauzer

While it may not have been the news they were expecting, Wally's family immediately saw the funny side. Wally may not be the breed mix they thought he was, but he will always be the same sweet-natured, loyal friend they know and love.
