A two-year-old dog named Kobe has become the highlight of bin collection day in Sefton after striking up an unexpected bond with a local refuse collector.

Kobe's owner, Danika Jane, shared footage from her Ring doorbell showing Kobe eagerly waiting at the gate for the bin lorry to arrive.

The cheerful dog bounds over to greet his new friend, earning him lots of smiles and strokes from the bin collection team.

The post received hundreds of positive comments, with one person writing: "I’d be there all day giving him attention!”

Danika, who adopted Kobe as a five-month-old pup, described him as a “massive softie” who thinks he’s part human. “He loves everyone and always finds a way to make someone smile,” she said.

The cutest member of the team

Ahead of next week’s collection, Danika bought Kobe a high-vis jacket so he could match the team. A Sefton Council spokesperson added: “It’s wonderful to see this interaction brightening our workers’ days. A little kindness and wagging tails go a long way.”

The bin lorry is due to visit again on Wednesday, where Kobe will no doubt be ready to greet his friend with his trademark enthusiasm.
