What poor S'mores had to endure is simply heart-wrenching. The dog had been waiting at Mutt Luv Rescue, a shelter in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, for quite some time. Finally, his dream came true. The loyal, four-legged friend was adopted at last.
Full of joy, S'mores left the shelter. But just 30 minutes later, he returned with his tail between his legs. The reason given by his new owners was shockingly callous: "The dog is too big!"
Shelter dog faces terrible rejection
The staff at Mutt Luv Rescue were stunned by the heartless decision. S'mores’ story quickly spread among local animal welfare organisations. Sarah Meiches, co-founder and president of the shelter, expressed her disbelief:
"We were completely stunned by S'mores' story. It's impossible for a dog to grow in size within just 30 minutes of adoption!"
When S'mores returned to the shelter, he was visibly dejected, and his sadness was palpable. Shelter workers acted quickly, determined to find him a better situation. Thankfully, within just a few hours, a loving foster family stepped forward.
This proved to be the perfect choice for S'mores. His temporary carers were baffled that anyone could reject such a sweet-natured dog. As the days passed, it became clear that poor S'mores had likely never experienced a proper home before.
A new beginning
S'mores is now thriving with his foster family. Each day, he learns something new. He is eager to be trained, curious, and social. He loves his daily walks and cherishes affectionate moments with his carers.
Although his journey started with heartbreak, S'mores has been given a second chance. He is finally experiencing the love and stability he deserves.
