Set clear rules
- Decide which areas of the house your dog is allowed in.
- Make sure your dog has his own bed or blanket.
- Be consistent with the rules. All family members must follow the same rules to avoid confusing your dog.
Teach the "off" command
- Use a treat or toy to lure your dog off the sofa. At the same time, say "off" in a firm voice. Of course, without shouting, frightening or intimidating the animal.
- When your dog is completely on the floor, give him the treat or toy and praise him.
- Repeat this exercise several times a day until your dog associates the command "off" or "down" with getting off the sofa.
