To bring a little joy to the often bleak lives of rescue dogs, one charity decided to do something very special for Christmas.

It's a heartwarming display of pure joy. This Christmas, the Dogs Trust charity in Ireland decided to give its residents an entertaining end to the year.

The rescue centre, which cares for around 200 dogs, organised an event called "Santa Paws Day". The idea was very simple: thanks to the generosity of partners and donors, the charity was able to hold a big celebration where every dog could choose a brand new toy.

An infectious joy

During the event, hundreds of toys were laid out on the floor of a large hall. Each dog was then invited in, one by one, to pick their favourite.

The dogs' sheer delight was captured on film, and it's hard to tear your eyes away from the video, which lasts just under four minutes.

While some went for the soft toys and their squeakers, others made a beeline for the balls. There was truly something for every taste!

It was adorable to see. All the dogs, big and small, young and old, seemed to be having a wonderful time.

A bittersweet reminder

While the video is sure to bring a smile to your face, it's also a reminder that most of these lovely dogs won't be spending Christmas in a family home this year. If just a few minutes of playtime can bring them this much happiness, imagine how overjoyed they would be to find a forever family...

In the meantime, they are thankfully in the excellent care of a rescue centre that does its utmost for them. Let's hope this irresistible video has melted the hearts of some potential adopters.
