‘She’s a unicorn’: Dog on death row for a bump on her head is saved just in time

Twilight Sparkles is an adorable six-month-old puppy.

Due to a genetic condition, the puppy was born with an unusually shaped skull.

To some of the rescuers at the shelter, she’s a real-life unicorn!

A stray puppy

Twilight was found wandering the streets of Texas, in the USA, with her parents. The Texas shelter that took her in had sadly put her on the euthanasia list because they had no space to keep her.

Fortunately, the director of Hearts & Bones Rescue heard about Twilight’s story. She saved her from being put to sleep and took her all the way from Texas to Brooklyn, where she fostered her. The little dog’s skull was examined, revealing a malformation that causes a bone in her skull to push against her forehead. The fur on her head grows along this ridge, giving her a cute little mohawk!

A happy ending

Twilight was prone to seizures, but thanks to the right medication, they are now under control. And in a wonderful turn of events, the little dog has now been adopted for life by her foster mum.

Her new mum is delighted that Twilight has no idea she’s any different from the other dogs in the house. She plays with them and enjoys life just like any other dog, much to the delight of her family!
