Lil Bit and Jinx are two Cairn Terrier crossbreeds who were born on what is known as a "puppy farm" in the United States. Despite their terrible reputation, these establishments are still widespread across the pond. It's estimated that over 10,000 such breeding facilities are still operating in the country, with only 3,000 of them supervised by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
They have such a bad reputation because of the appalling living conditions for the dogs. The adults are often kept in small cages and used continuously for breeding, while the puppies frequently don't receive the necessary care. Yet, many people still choose to buy their pets from these places, despite warnings from animal welfare organisations.
Thankfully, some dogs are lucky enough to be rescued, thanks to the tireless work of animal welfare activists. This is what happened to Jinx and Lil Bit, who were taken in as puppies by the "National Mill Dog Rescue" organisation in Colorado.
A sad separation
After arriving at the rescue centre, it didn't take long for the two brothers to find new families, but sadly, they had to be separated.
But just over a year after his adoption, poor Lil Bit was returned to the National Mill Dog Rescue. His owner had fallen ill and was no longer able to look after her little dog. However, fate was about to give him another chance, and it was a very special one...
Reunited by fate
The owner of the other little dog, Jinx, had become a volunteer for the organisation. When she saw Lil Bit return to the rescue, she was immediately intrigued by his resemblance to her own dog.
After doing a little digging, she discovered that the two dogs came from the same place and were even from the same litter. Without a moment's hesitation, she followed her heart and decided to arrange a meeting to see if they would get along. And when Jinx and Lil Bit were reunited, it was clear the magic was still there.
As if they were always meant to be together, the two little dogs immediately showed the special bond between them.
Since then, Lil Bit has been adopted by Jinx's owner, and the two dogs get along wonderfully. They are now inseparable and do everything together, from sharing toys and naps to enjoying their favourite walks.
