Four young pups have been rescued after being abandoned in a small crate outside the RSPCA Doncaster and Rotherham District Branch.

This recent abandonment comes just weeks after seven dogs were found in the same location.

A passerby spotted the terrified terrier cross pups at around 8am on Monday, 8 December, and alerted staff.

Shocking morning discovery

The three female and one male puppy, believed to be about eight weeks old, were huddled together and visibly frightened.

Named Sunny, Rain, Drizzle and Puddle, the siblings were dirty and in need of a bath but are thought to be in good overall health. They are now safe in the care of the branch.

Linked to previous abandonment

Their discovery follows a similar incident on 15 November, when seven young dogs were found crammed in a cold metal cage without food or water. Those pups, later named after storms, have since been rehomed. Staff believe the latest four are from a different litter but likely the same wider family.

Branch manager Daniel Cartwright described the situation as “very sad” and urged anyone struggling with pet care to seek help rather than abandon animals. The rescue comes as the RSPCA launches its Big Give Back to Animals appeal to raise vital winter funds.
