One of Police Scotland’s most accomplished working dogs has officially retired, marking the end of an exceptional career.

Amber, a nine-year-old Belgian Malinois, joined the force in 2016.

She quickly proved herself during training in Glasgow before taking up duties in Tayside.

A decorated career draws to a close

Over the years, she tracked suspects, located missing people, and found crucial evidence alongside her handler, PC Scott McMaster. Their partnership earned national recognition, including the title of the most obedient police dog in the UK in 2023.

PC McMaster described their bond as unbreakable, adding that Amber’s dedication and skill made her an outstanding partner at every incident they attended.

A new chapter

Amber spent her final shifts demonstrating the same determination that defined her career, successfully tracking six suspects through the challenging Perthshire terrain. She also helped prepare her successor, PD Chilli, a young black Belgian Malinois who recently secured his licence and completed his first major track in Forfar.

Now settling into life as part of PC McMaster’s family, Amber is expected to embrace hill walks, loch swims, and plenty of time on the sofa. Police Scotland has wished her a long and happy retirement.
