The story of Easton and Odin (nicknamed Odie) began in Chicago, USA, even before the little boy was born. While Krista was pregnant, Odin, an Australian Shepherd, would often rest his head on her bump. In fact, it was against the dog's fur that Easton gave his very first kicks. "I couldn't believe my dog felt the first kick before I did," Krista recalls.
From the moment he was born, Odie became Easton's protector and best friend. They did everything together, from taking naps to playing endless games. But in December 2023, their world was turned upside down. Odin fell gravely ill with an aggressive cancer. In just two weeks, the loyal companion passed away, leaving the family devastated.
The legend of the Rainbow Bridge
To help their son, who was two at the time, cope with his grief, his parents had to find the right words. They explained that Odin had gone to the "Rainbow Bridge", a wonderful place where animals are no longer in pain. To help Easton, they gave him a book about it and a cuddly toy that looked just like his dog.
Since then, the little boy's behaviour has taken on a whole new meaning for his mother. Every time it rains, Easton rushes to the window. If he sees a rainbow, he shouts with joy, "Hi Odie!". But one day in April, when the sky remained grey, the toddler sadly said, "He didn't come to visit me...". It was at that exact moment that Krista realised her son was truly waiting for these rainbows to appear so he could "see" his best friend.
A video that moved the internet to tears
Krista shared the moment on TikTok, along with a montage showing Easton growing up alongside Odin. The video immediately went viral, racking up over 1.6 million views. Thousands of users shared their emotional reactions, with many saying they were "devastated" by the purity of a bond that endures even after death.
Today, Krista chooses to believe, just like her son, that the ones we love never truly leave us. "From now on, we'll never look at a rainbow in the same way again," she shared. For Easton, every colour in the sky is a promise that his four-legged big brother is always watching over him.
