Shauna Rouse from Oldham handed two severely neglected Maltese terrier-type dogs into Dogs Trust Manchester in March, claiming she had discovered them on the school run.
One of the animals, later identified through a microchip as Bailey, had collapsed and was unresponsive.
Dogs found in shocking condition
Vets described him as “emaciated” with a body condition score of one out of nine. His organs were failing, and he was euthanised to prevent further suffering.
The second dog, nicknamed Tiny Tim, was also in a poor state but responded to treatment and has since made a good recovery.
Court issues 10-year ban
An RSPCA investigation proved the dogs belonged to Rouse, who later admitted she had lied about finding them. She pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal at Tameside Magistrates Court.
Alongside the 10-year disqualification, Rouse was handed a 12-month community order, a 10-week curfew, £200 costs, and a £114 victim surcharge.
Magistrates called the case “serious” but stopped short of imposing a custodial sentence.
