Back in 2016, Ulhas Chowdhury, a school teacher, stumbled upon an extraordinary scene while taking a shortcut near his home. When he heard a baby cry, Chowdhury followed the sound, eventually finding four dogs circling protectively around a newborn. Their vigilant presence prevented any harm from coming to the infant, who was swaddled in a pale pink cloth.
Responding to the call for help
Moved by the dogs' display of loyalty, Chowdhury wasted no time alerting the neighbourhood to the situation. Local residents quickly gathered, with one neighbour providing milk to soothe the crying baby. Together, they ensured the infant's safety until authorities arrived.
Officers from the Purulia Sadar police station and the 24-hour Child Helpline swiftly intervened, taking custody of the baby and providing her with medical attention. Despite initial concerns about jaundice, doctors at the hospital assured that the baby, named Sania by Chowdhury, was in stable condition and would receive specialised care.
A brighter future ahead
Thanks to the dogs' concern, the baby's life was saved. She will now be placed in an adoption centre, ensuring a safe and happy future.
Ulhas Chowdhury expressed immense gratitude towards the four-legged heroes, recognising their pivotal role in the rescue. Their selfless actions are a reminder of the unwavering loyalty and compassion that dogs bring into our lives.
