Completely weakened, this dog was lying in a pile of rubbish and seemed to have lost all faith in life.

When the charity Stray Rescue of St Louis, based in Missouri, United States, received the photo of this poor dog, they immediately understood they had to act quickly.

In the image, a poor dog is lying in a pile of rubbish. He doesn't seem able to get up anymore, or even to have a glimmer of hope that he might pull through one day.

Fortunately, a kind soul who was passing by shared the information with the charity and stayed close to the dog until the team arrived to rescue him.

Several injuries

Very weak, the dog who was actually a girl was named Propeller and taken straight to the charity's partner vet. She looked injured, and whilst the team was hopeful she would pull through, they didn't yet know if the damage was serious.

After a full medical examination, the veterinary team found several wounds and bullet fragments in one of her paws. Fortunately, no vital organs had been hit. She was operated on to remove the foreign bodies and the veterinary clinic announced that she shouldn't have any lasting effects.

Aged 2, this young dog was traumatised by the shooting, but she was quickly able to count on the support of the entire Stray Rescue of St Louis team, who did everything to comfort her. A month after her rescue, Propeller showed her true personality and she's a lovely, affectionate dog.

Fully recovered from her operation, the dog now spends her time playing with her fellow rescue companions at the charity's shelter.
