His owner died two years ago, but this loyal dog still waits on the doorstep

In a small village in the Haute-Savoie region of France, the story of a farm dog named Jimmy has deeply moved locals and people online. For nearly two years, the loyal animal refused to leave the home of his owner, who passed away in 2023.

An unbreakable bond

Jimmy, a German Shepherd cross, was adopted from the SPA in Arthaz by François Vuarchex, an 89-year-old farmer living in the village of Ayze, Haute-Savoie.

According to the news website Midi Libre, the man and his dog quickly formed an inseparable bond.

Sadly, in December 2023, the elderly farmer passed away. Despite his owner's absence, Jimmy stayed put. He remained by the farm every day, patiently waiting for an owner who would never come home.

The farmer's son steps in

For almost two years, the dog refused to leave the late farmer's property. It was the farmer's son who came to feed him and make sure he had everything he needed.

When Jimmy injured his paw, the son treated him at his own home, but by January 2026, the dog had decided to return to the farm.
