But what is this lion on the loose that's causing panic amongst the Irish population? As reported by the Upi website, a viral video "of a lion" on the loose spotted in the woods of east County Clare led police to open an investigation.
Delighted with his recent viral video
When questioned, a local forester indicated that "this lion" had already been spotted by workers in the area.
In November 2025, Irish police announced they had found and identified the animal.
In the end, the "lion" was a Newfoundland dog with a very distinctive haircut. Named Mouse, the pooch was described as being "very friendly" and "is delighted with his recent viral video".
