This sweet dog had to be very patient before finding her forever family.

A long wait for a special dog

Life isn't always easy for a dog with a disability, especially when you're waiting to find a family. As reported by The Dodo, Millie Mae is a dog who suffers from short spine syndrome.

While her head is a 'normal size', the rest of her body is 'all compacted'. The sweet dog would have to wait three long years before she was noticed by Erin and her husband.

Bringing joy during a time of grief

The couple had been looking to adopt another dog after their own beloved pet passed away. As it turned out, Millie was adopted on Erin's birthday.

From the moment she arrived in her new home, the little dog brought so much joy during their time of grief. Millie settled in straight away, as if she'd always been there.

In fact, her new owner was astonished that she had been in the shelter for so long: "she's the most adorable dog in the world".
