Dog spotted on a scorching balcony in France finds a home with one of his rescuers

By Elodie Carpentier

A simple routine patrol turned into a wonderful story of rescue and animal solidarity. On Tuesday, 25 August 2026, two gendarmes (French police officers) from the Dampierre-sur-Salon brigade in Haute-Saône, France, came to the rescue of a dog trapped on a balcony.

While patrolling the local area on their usual rounds, the two officers noticed a dog on a balcony. The poor animal was stuck in the direct, scorching sun with absolutely no shade, as reported by the local newspaper, L'Est Républicain.

Realising the immediate danger of heatstroke, the pair of officers quickly took action. They secured the area and successfully rescued the dog from this critical situation.

An unexpected turn of events

After speaking with the owner, the officers learnt that he was looking to rehome his dog and had been planning to hand him over to the SPA, the French equivalent of the RSPCA.

From rescue to adoption

Deeply moved by the plight of the dog he had just helped to save, one of the officers volunteered to adopt the animal officially and offer him a loving new home.

It is a wonderfully happy ending for the four-legged friend, who has swapped a boiling hot balcony for a brand-new life with his very own rescuer.
