It really is a remarkable transformation. Last May, the Chatham County Sheriff's Office in the United States was called out to rescue three dogs living in filthy, unsanitary conditions, as reported by website The Dodo.
A shocking discovery inside the home
Inside the house, rescuers discovered Mr Pickles, a Cocker Spaniel who barely looked like a dog anymore.
The poor animal was weighed down by more than 12 lbs of heavily matted fur. Rushed to a rescue shelter and then to a veterinary clinic, Mr Pickles was given urgent care.
Rescuers spent five painstaking hours shaving away his dense coat so the dog could finally breathe easily again.
Surgery and a fresh start up for adoption
On top of his dramatic makeover, the dog had to undergo surgery to treat a chronic ear infection. Thanks to the wonderful work of the Longleaf animal shelter, Mr Pickles was soon ready to be put up for adoption.
"His story is a powerful testament to the resilience of animals and the impact that compassion, patience, and teamwork can have on a life in distress," wrote the Sheriff's Office.
"His story isn't over yet, but thanks to the generosity of many people, his future is looking so much brighter."
