Police dog stops by cellar door in France, making incredible discovery

By Elise Petter•

While on patrol in Albi, France, a police dog suddenly froze outside a cellar door, guided by his exceptional sense of smell.

The scene unfolded during a routine safety patrol in the Cantepau neighbourhood of Albi, south-western France. Officers from the anti-crime squad were making their rounds with a dog unit when one of the dogs suddenly changed behaviour.

A sharp nose for trouble

Focused and determined, the clever pooch stopped dead in his tracks in front of a cellar door. In police terms, he "marked" the spot with great precision, signalling to his human colleagues that a suspicious smell was coming from inside.

An impressive discovery

Intrigued by their four-legged partner's clear reaction, the officers quickly searched the area. It is fair to say that the day's hero was spot on.

As reported by local newspaper Le Tarn libre, officers found no less than 639 grams (1.4 lbs) of illegal substances neatly wrapped into individual deals. Thanks to the remarkable work and keen nose of this faithful companion, the illicit goods were immediately taken off the streets.
