For several days, a stray dog had been desperately seeking a bit of comfort in the streets of a Californian neighbourhood. It was finally a motorist, alerted by an anonymous note, who discovered the incredible truth. Under his car, a dog was shivering with cold, curled up on her old bed.
The message, handwritten and taped to the windscreen, simply read: "You have a dog under your car. 23 October, 7pm. Check before you leave."
Intrigued, the driver bent down and found himself face to face with a female Pitbull cross, frozen with fear but unable to move.
"She was waiting for someone who would never come back"
Volunteer Suzette Hall, founder of Logan's Legacy 29, recounted the scene on Facebook: "She was hiding under that car, waiting for someone who would never come back."
Local residents couldn't get her out. Despite their calls and the food left beside her, the dog remained huddled beneath the chassis, refusing to leave what seemed to be her last refuge.
The next day, an even sadder sight awaited them. The little dog's basket had disappeared. "Someone had stolen her bed, the only comfort she had left", Suzette Hall recounted. "She was wandering around the neighbourhood, panicked, going from door to door to find it."
A rescue full of love
Fortunately, several residents had already grown fond of this big-hearted dog. Among them was a woman called Fatima, who spent her evening searching for her. It was she who finally found her, hidden under a neighbouring house, trembling and starving.
Alerted immediately, Suzette Hall went to the scene with a crate. "I set the trap, and this sweet dog came out of her hiding place and went straight in. She was starving", the volunteer recounts. The dog was taken to the vet, who confirmed she was in good health despite the fear and exhaustion. That's when they discovered a touching detail: a little heart-shaped marking on her coat, just at the base of her tail. That's how she was named Amour.
Waiting for a forever family
Since her rescue, Amour has slowly begun to relax. She's discovering the comfort of a proper bed, gentle strokes and regular meals. Whilst waiting to find her forever family, she's receiving all the affection she deserves at Suzette Hall's rescue.
