Nancy was walking her dogs, Arah and Tobie, in Laurel Park in Los Alamitos, California, when the little dog suddenly changed behaviour. She became motionless, refused to eat and displayed worrying tremors. Concerned, her owner quickly took her home to monitor her condition and try to understand what was happening.
Shortly afterwards, the dog displayed unusual mouth movements and tremors, worrying signs of a serious problem. Nancy immediately contacted her vet for an urgent assessment.
Severe poisoning and emergency hospitalisation
At the vet's, the situation proved critical. Tobie had an extremely high body temperature and heart rate. Tests confirmed the presence of methamphetamine and amphetamine, most likely ingested during the walk in the park. The dog was hospitalised as an emergency to stabilise her condition and prevent serious complications, particularly brain damage.
Thanks to swift intervention, Tobie regained her energy and usual behaviour. Nancy reported the incident to local authorities and now wants to raise awareness amongst all owners: simple accidental exposure to certain substances can endanger an animal's life.
