At Ziggy’s Refuge Farm Sanctuary in North Carolina, a frantic search was underway after senior dog Whitey disappeared from sight.
Owners Kristin Hartness and Jay Yontz had been checking on their 100 animals when they realised their beloved companion was missing.
A shocking discovery on the farm
After hours of worry, a faint “squish” led Kristin to a mud pit where Whitey was trapped and exhausted, struggling to free himself.
Whitey had once lived alone in a barn before the couple adopted him into their family. Over the years, he grew inseparable from his humans, making his sudden disappearance all the more alarming.
Despite Whitey’s frantic kicking, he was sinking deeper with no way out. Kristin’s attempts to lift him failed, but Jay arrived just in time to haul the tired dog to safety. After a careful clean-up and a much-needed rest, Whitey was soon back in his cosy bed, surrounded by love.
A lucky escape and safe return
The couple say Whitey is more than a pet, he is part of their family and adored by every animal on the farm. His ordeal was frightening, but his recovery brought huge relief.
“Today, he is the centre of our world,” the sanctuary wrote.
