A shopping mall in Altoona, Pennsylvania, is a favourite haunt of Steve Moore and his Golden Retriever, Jackson. When the pair visit the shops together, they attract dozens of adoring fans.
Three-year-old Jackson was once filmed sitting outside shops with a sign around his neck that read: “Dad told me to wait here. Me waiting.”
Patient and friendly
The Golden Retriever’s patience is matched only by his friendly temperament. As a result, Jackson is never really alone while he waits for his owner. Instead, he is quickly surrounded by shoppers who find his gentle presence irresistible.
Jackson’s popularity has amazed Moore, though it also leaves him puzzled, given the dramatic change in people’s attitudes. Just weeks earlier, no one wanted the adorable pup.
Earlier this year, Jackson was abandoned at a shelter, unwanted and unloved. Steve adopted him shortly afterwards.
“Everybody wants to take him home,” Moore said. “I find that amazing because four weeks ago, nobody wanted him.”
The Golden Retriever
The Golden Retriever is a popular choice of therapy dog. Intelligent and adaptable, it is a breed often chosen as a guide or assistance dog.
They are also renowned for their friendliness and gentleness. Docile enough to provide companionship for the elderly yet robust enough to enjoy children’s play, retrievers are loved worldwide.
Jackson likely also displays another of the breed’s famous traits: loyalty. It is yet another quality that makes the Golden Retriever such a special companion.
