In Central Park, in the United States, an act of bravery recently touched the hearts of passers-by and people online. A man didn't hesitate to jump into a frozen pond to save a drowning dog.
The brave act took place early in the morning, a time when dogs are allowed to be off-lead in the park. A Labrador named Nutmeg was chasing ducks when she ventured out onto the frozen surface of the lake.
A dangerous rescue
Unfortunately, the ice broke under her weight. Several passers-by tried to help, including one man, Aaron Pedroza, who decided to take action.
But the ice gave way under him too, plunging the man into the freezing water. Despite the danger, Aaron managed to grab the Labrador, push her onto the ice, and pull himself out of the water. "I grabbed her with my left arm and I threw her onto the ice," he said after the rescue.
A true hero for the dog's family
The dog made it back to the shore safe and sound and was reunited with her family. After the ordeal, she simply slept for several hours to recover from the cold and the stress.
For the dog's family, this stranger is now much more than just a passer-by: he has become a true hero.
