Mr Pugsley had been a resident of Stray Rescue of St. Louis, Missouri (USA) for nine long months. Despite his wonderful personality, nobody had come forward to adopt him.
Thankfully, he was included in a programme that offers shelter dogs the chance to spend time in a home, even if just for a few hours.
An incentive for dog lovers
Stray Rescue of St. Louis decided to implement a programme that allows dog lovers to spend a few days with a shelter dog.
This meant Mr Pugsley could spend a weekend with a real family, leaving his kennel behind to enjoy some rest and relaxation in a loving home.
In seventh heaven
As soon as he arrived, he immediately made himself at home, jumping onto the bed and snuggling in for hours. This lovely boy clearly needed some peace and quiet away from the shelter environment.
Unfortunately, his home experience was short-lived, and he had to return to the shelter while he waited for his forever home to come forward.
While some dogs find their family immediately, this isn't always true. Many dogs have to wait for months in rescue, and foster opportunities offer a dog the warmth and love of a family. Mr Pugsley's reaction goes to show that even a weekend can make all the difference.
