Cecile, a resident of Réunion, was one morning walking her two dogs through the island’s vast sugar cane fields.
Soon she began to be bothered by the behaviour of one of the dogs, which seemed interested in something a little way off their path.
Loyal dog
Giving in to the dog’s agitation, Cecile glanced into the depths of the crop to discover an elderly man lying motionless, and a dog sitting by his side.
She at once called for help, but when help arrive,d it was clear the man’s dog could not accompany him to the hospital.
The dog was clearly bereft and so Cecile coaxed the dog back to her own home, and nicknamed her Bobynette.
Heartbreaking reaction
In due course, the elderly man was released from the hospital. On hearing the news, Cecile and the foster dog paid him a visit. Cecile was overjoyed to be able to return the dog to its rightful owner.
Unfortunately, the man no longer recognised the little dog, despite the dog’s excitement about returning home. Adamant that the dog was not his, the man refused to take her in.
With no other choice, Cecile eventually left the dog in the care of the island’s shelter, the Association Sauve ton Bourbon et Cie. By all accounts, the dog is recovering well from his ordeal, and workers hope she will be rehomed soon.
