Brett Hereford was fishing on a lake in Montana with his family a couple of years ago.
Suddenly, the group saw a dark shadow appear under the surface of the water. As Brett looked closer, he realised the shadow looked a lot like a cat, and it was moving restlessly, as if trying to kick its way back up to the surface. Brett immediately cast his net to try and save the poor animal.
A huge catch
But when he pulled the net back up, he realised he’d made a huge mistake. The creature wasn’t a fish, and it wasn’t a cat. It was a baby bobcat!
Though the “kitty” growled at his rescuers, we’re pretty sure somewhere deep inside, he was grateful. After all, if it wasn’t for Brett, who knows how long he would’ve survived in the water. That’s one lucky cat!
Bobcat release
The bobcat was rowed back to shore and released on dry land within minutes, to the great relief of the Molly, the family’s Labrador, who was a bit worried about a cat joining the family.
We hope the little bobcat stays well away from the water now!
