That day, the driver stopped, intrigued by movement inside the basket. As she approached, she made out a little nose poking through the holes in the plastic. Beneath the blankets, she discovered two cats huddled together, left there like unwanted objects.
Animal control officer Heather Haddon was alerted and arrived at the scene. Deeply saddened, she found that the two felines were clean, well socialised and used to human contact. Everything suggested they had previously lived in a loving home.
Two inseparable companions, now safe
Heather quickly managed to calm them and took them to safety. Since arriving at Ledyard Animal Control shelter, the two cats have been eating, purring and sleeping side by side in the same basket. Their bond is clear.
They are currently receiving the necessary veterinary care and are waiting for their former owner to come forward. If they are not claimed, they will be offered for adoption together, just as they have always been.
