At the beginning of September, Heidi decided to take in Athena the cat and her litter of newborns.
At the time, Heidi had no idea just how fragile Athena's health was. The poor cat was suffering from being severely underweight and was badly dehydrated.
Taking time to heal
However, despite her health problems, Athena never stopped feeding and protecting her little ones. She stayed by their side through everything. Heidi provided her with care and nourishing meals, as well as plenty of love.
Thanks to medication and proper care, the mother cat's health began to improve. She gradually put on weight. The kittens were also treated for stomach problems and tube-fed. Sadly, despite all of Heidi's efforts, one kitten didn't survive...
A touch of comfort
Heidi transformed the kittens' space into a true cat paradise, filled with toys, food and little climbing posts. The little family explored every corner, delighted by all these new smells, their purring filling the room.
Knowing she was safe, Athena would watch Heidi with a curious and trusting gaze each time she spoke to her in a soft and affectionate voice. Good news: a loving family fell head over heels for Athena. They adopted her, along with two of her kittens, Maddie and Bobby. The other two, Buck and Howie, quickly won the hearts of a mother and daughter, who welcomed them into their home for life!
