The poor little thing would never have made it on his own.
The passer-by rushed him to the Humane Society of North Texas rescue centre.
Unable to move
The substance covering the kitten's entire body prevented him from drinking, eating, moving, or doing anything at all. When rescuers took him in, the kitten was severely dehydrated.
The entire shelter team immediately set to work to save him. They tried several products to remove the glue. In the end, it was rapeseed oil that worked best to get the substance off. They used nearly 8 litres of rapeseed oil to free the kitten from the industrial glue.
A seven-hour rescue
This thorough clean-up took a full 7 hours! Gradually, the kitten began to regain his energy. During this intense seven-hour period, the rescuers took regular breaks to feed him. They have since managed to remove the glue from the kitten's body, but a few bits still remain, particularly on one of his back legs.
The rescuers have named the kitten Elmer. They are continuing to give him oil baths to finish removing the glue. Elmer still needs to gain some weight and strength before he can be put up for adoption.
