Entire town moved to tears after cat found abandoned on cycle path

By Ludivine Mazzotti

On Saturday, 29 August, a poor cat was abandoned in Eckwersheim, just north of Strasbourg in France.

When he was found, the poor cat was inside a pet carrier, left right next to a cycle path. The local council in Eckwersheim quickly shared details on social media, hoping to find the owner.

A cat with no identity

When rescuers arrived to help him, the cat was remarkably calm, despite the stressful circumstances of his abandonment. He was then taken to the pound in Strasbourg.

Sadly, the cat has neither a microchip nor a tattoo. With no way to track down his owner, the shelter staff have decided to name him Cookie for now.

An appeal for information

Eckwersheim council has launched an appeal for information. They are urging anyone who recognises Cookie, or who might have seen who left him there, to get in touch.

By law, there is a ten-day waiting period. If Cookie isn't claimed during this time, he will be handed over to the French animal protection charity, the SPA. We truly hope that Cookie can be reunited with his family or find a loving new home where he will be cared for for the rest of his life.
