Before it even opens, this new cat café welcomes its very first rescue in a surprising way

By Ludivine Mazzotti•

At the start of October, Kelly Holland was preparing for the opening of her new cat café in Los Angeles, USA. Her business, named Cat’s Meow, will combine a coffee shop with a vintage boutique.

Kelly was not supposed to visit the shop that day, but an unexpected turn of events led her straight to the premises.

And that unplanned visit held a heartbreaking discovery for her...

A very fragile kitten

In front of the shop window, a tiny kitten had been left wrapped in a towel. The poor little thing was completely alone. His fur was dirty and he seemed very fragile. Fortunately, the kitten was in safe hands: Kelly runs The Animal Rescue Alliance, an organisation dedicated to rescuing animals.

The rescuer shared the kitten's story on the Instagram page for Cat’s Meow. She summed up the situation in a single sentence: "We weren't supposed to be there. But we were." In truth, without that unexpected trip to the café, nobody knows how much longer the kitten would have remained alone outside the shop window.

A very first rescue

A visit to the vet revealed that the kitten was severely malnourished. Since then, he has been recovering gradually thanks to the loving care of the rescue team. Kelly decided to name the kitten Meowzer as a nod to her upcoming café. He has thus become the very first animal saved as part of this new adventure.

Cat’s Meow is due to open officially on 23 October, partnering with The Animal Rescue Alliance to carry on its mission of animal protection.

However, Meowzer's abandonment reminded Kelly of the importance of securing the premises. The team is now planning to install CCTV to monitor the shop front and spot any animals left outside much more easily. We wish Kelly every success with her exciting new venture!
