He saw a woman get out of her car with a cardboard box in her hand.
The woman tipped the box over, dropping five tiny kittens onto the ground, "just like throwing out rubbish," as Peter later described the scene.
A heartless act
CCTV footage shows the woman dumping the kittens before getting back in her car and driving off. Peter was absolutely shocked. He knew he couldn't just go about his day knowing the kittens had been left all alone to fend for themselves.
Peter used some tuna to attract the kittens and gain their trust. He managed to bring four of the five home with him and returned later to rescue the fifth.
A happy ending
The local police were notified. Following an investigation, the person who abandoned the animals was identified and arrested.
The good news is that since their terrible ordeal, all the kittens have now found their forever homes. They can now put their ordeal behind them and thrive as happy, carefree kittens.
