A black-and-white cat is wandering through a residential area, crossing the street and heading towards a driveway. He is carrying something in his mouth that is hard to identify at first glance. His owner films the scene, commenting with clear amusement.
As the cat gets closer, his prey is revealed: a dark-furred squirrel. Yet, it is not just the catch that has got people talking. It is the tone of the video that has quickly triggered a wave of indignation.
A video that has left viewers furious
Behind the camera, the man proudly describes his cat as a "hunting ace". He adds that his pet apparently shows no mercy to "non-native squirrels". According to him, any that do not climb trees quickly enough stand no chance against his companion.
The tone of the video is particularly light-hearted, which annoyed many viewers deeply.
A controversial post goes viral
In the space of just 23 hours, the Facebook post racked up 3,309 likes and 3,536 comments. Critics flooded the comments section, with many users expressing their anger.
Some pointed out angrily that the dead squirrel is not a "toy" and that there is nothing funny about the situation. Others targeted the wider issue of letting cats roam free. They argue that protecting animals should not stop at one's own front door. In fact, some owners explained that they only let their cats outside in secure spaces to protect local wildlife.
The comments quickly turned into a deeper debate: is this simply nature at work, or is it the consequence of human choices?
The laws of nature or human responsibility?
Several users defended the feline's hunting instinct, pointing out that cats are natural predators. Others disagreed strongly, emphasizing that a free-roaming pet is not a wild predator, but an animal under human care. Therefore, owners must take responsibility for their pet's actions.
Some reactions went way too far, however, with some comments even wishing violence or death upon the cat.
One thing is certain: for many, the real issue is not just the prey in the cat's mouth. It is trying to understand why anyone would choose to share such a scene online with so much pride.
