When the Point Guard Management team arrived at a house whose tenants had just left, they expected to prepare for renovation work. But a note left on the door by neighbours changed everything: a cat and her newborns had been abandoned on the premises.
Patricia Mitnaul, a member of the team, immediately began searching for them. The cat, nicknamed Sissy, approached her without hesitation, clearly seeking attention and comfort after being left alone.
A painstaking search beneath the house
Whilst Sissy was given some water and food, the rescuers tried to locate her little ones. Two kittens had found refuge in a space beneath the house, accessible through a small opening. With help from the Wichita Animal Action League (WAAL), the team finally managed to lure them out of their hiding place using food.
Once the whole family was reunited, the volunteers took them to the vet. The visit revealed a severe roundworm infestation, from which they have since recovered. Without this swift intervention, Sissy would likely not have survived.
A new life full of hope
The four felines are now safe at WAAL's premises, where they are regaining their strength. One of the team members, Kirsten, has even decided to adopt one of the kittens she helped rescue. Soon, the others will be offered for adoption, ready to finally know the warmth of a loving home.
