At the end of January, a family in New York noticed a mother cat and her two kittens lingering by their screen door.
The three cats were peering inside, as if hoping to be let in. The kittens seemed curious but very shy, staying close to their mother as she kept her gaze fixed on the door.
At one point, one of the grey and white kittens even tried to climb the screen, as if looking for a way inside.
Fortunately, an approaching winter storm prompted the family to act. They decided to let the little family in to keep them safe while they waited for the rescue organisation, PuppyKittyNYCity, to step in.
The mother, named Yuki, turned out to be incredibly affectionate once she was safely indoors. After eating her fill, she was very sociable with the volunteers, as if she understood she was finally safe.
A new life for the little family
The kittens, named Lumi and Neve, were very timid at first. But with time, daily care and cuddles helped them to build their confidence.
After receiving veterinary care, the family was placed in a foster home. Once she was spayed and moved to an adoption centre, it didn't take long for Yuki to find her forever family.
A bright future
Today, the former stray is living in a loving home, while her kittens continue to grow into confident and affectionate young cats.
