An Iceland delivery driver has vowed to help after spotting a sad note written by a man broken hearted by the loss of his beloved dog.

The pandemic has made loneliness more prevalent in our society than ever.

Our dogs have always been wonderful companions, but for some, the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns have meant that dogs have become a vital link to the outside world.

A sorrowful note

Delivery driver David McLeod was used to seeing one of his elderly customers out and about with his Jack Russell, so when he found this note, it was all the more heart-breaking.

The small, hand-written letter was found in the West Killbride area of Scotland and explains that the elderly man had lost his beloved dog to cancer and hadn’t “felt well” without him. He went on to say that he could pay up to £30 for another dog.

Man with a mission

Hearing the man’s plight, the dad of two, David, has decided to help.

His first move was to contact all of the shelters and rescue centres in the area to find a suitable replacement for the man.

David told the Daily Record,

“I have been delivering to the man for six years and he’s such a nice, caring man.”

The plight has garnered considerable attention in the local area, and the whole community has stepped up to help find the right dog. The quest to find the perfect companion is currently in the hands of rescue organisations, so watch this space.

We wish the man all the very best.
