It was in the morning that staff at Wanderer’s Rest Humane Association discovered that a Pyrenean Mountain Dog had been abandoned in front of their shelter. Beside him was a note which said “Over 10 years old. Can no longer walk.”
In the right hands
Due to his inability to move, the dog had clearly been dragged with a sled all the way to the shelter and left there to fend for himself. Outraged, shelter staff shared pictures of Perry on Facebook, reminding their followers that there were always other options when wanting or needing to rehome a pet. Leaving a dog alone outside – especially one who is old and infirm – is not one of them.
Poor Perry had a multitude of issues. His matted fur had caused a skin infection and the ticks he had caught had provoked a couple of tick-borne diseases. Luckily, it seemed that his inability to walk was caused by the above issues (and by his weight), so it was potentially reversible.
A beautiful miracle
Indeed, after intense grooming, medication, and rehab, Perry is getting stronger and stronger every day. He is now able to walk by himself for several minutes and is enjoying every second of his newfound youth.
Perry is now in a foster home and waiting for a loving forever family. We wish him all the best; he truly deserves it!
