Four months ago Jennifer's life shattered into a million pieces.
She received news that her 28-year-old sister Charlyn had been murdered, as she walked her dog Silas. She had no idea the walk her Australian Shepherd would be her last.
Brutal attack in broad daylight
Charlyn was attacked and stabbed by a 44-year-old woman in the street, all because she was jealous of her victim.
The young woman died at the scene, right in front of her faithful friend Silas.
"For four days I was in shock, I could only scream" Jennifer recalls. The pain of losing her beloved sister seemed unbearable. But amid this tragedy, she made a decision that would change her life.
Silas wasn't just Charlyn's companion – he was her whole world. "For us, he's like a family member. But above all, he's the last thing that remains of my sister" the 35-year-old told waz.de.
Four days after the tragedy, Jennifer collected the orphaned dog from the animal shelter, bringing him home to mourn together.
The landlord shows no mercy
But Jennifer hadn't checked with her landlord and her tenancy agreement banned pets.
Instead of showing compassion for the grieving sister, a merciless battle began. "The landlord pressured me from the start to take Silas back to the animal shelter", Jennifer explained.
The situation has now escalated dramatically. Her parents are ill and cannot care for Silas. Giving him away is out of the question but Jennifer refuses to part with her sister's four-legged friend.
Now she and her partner David have been given notice, they are on the lookout for a new home. Hopefully they will soon be settled in a place that offers them the peace they deserve.
