"This is simply impossible," wrote one shocked commenter under a post from the Freiburg Animal Shelter in Germany.
Many others were equally horrified after reading the shelter’s account. For volunteer Caro, the start of her shift took a devastating turn.
Dumped with chilling note
Just outside the gates, she discovered a pink blanket draped over a pet carrier. On top, a large bag containing dog supplies. Inside the cage was a Miniature Bull Terrier, abandoned in the night.
The shelter believes everything was planned under the cover of darkness. A letter had been left with the dog, offering a short description of her character and wishing the shelter luck in finding her a new home.
Callously discarded
The shelter's staff were left shaken. "There was no enquiry about the terrier, no attempt at contact, no plea for help," they wrote on Facebook. The dog had simply been discarded.
Now named Jeanny, the little terrier is in shock and slowly adjusting to her new environment. A criminal complaint has been filed and investigations are ongoing.
