Ten-year-old Alfie, a Schnauzer, had been regularly walked near a local golf course by his owner Neil Taylor. But Taylor was horrified when Alfie suddenly vomited four golf balls at home.
The bizarre incident led to a vet visit, where further scans exposed a stomach full of foreign objects.
Emergency surgery
On 16 June, Alfie underwent emergency surgery. Vets removed an additional six golf balls, a ball of string, bits of wood, and a pair of rubber gloves.
The procedure cost Taylor £2,500, but he says the outcome was worth every penny.
“I only have one dog and he’s like my son,” Taylor said. “It was a huge relief when we were given the all clear.”
Alfie is now recovering well and back to his usual playful self.
A remarkable recovery
Despite his unusual snack choices, Alfie is on the mend and his days of snuffling up stray golf balls are hopefully behind him.
