Six months ago, Morgan and her family decided to adopt a dog. They had no particular preference and were open to welcoming a puppy, or even an older or sick dog, into their home.
A fateful meeting
Morgan and her family visited a rescue centre in South Florida, where they met an adorable puppy from a shelter in Alabama. His breeder had wanted to have him euthanised, simply because he was blind.
He was a double merle Dachshund, which means both of Ollie's parents carried the merle gene.
Someone in Alabama had contacted the rescue to alert them to the puppy's plight. Morgan and her family didn't hesitate for a second to adopt him; they knew instantly that he was the perfect dog for them.
A bright new chapter
At first, training Ollie was a bit of a challenge, as everything had to be adapted for him, including his walks. But now, at nine months old, Ollie is making wonderful progress.
The vet has diagnosed Ollie with glaucoma in his right eye, which will likely require surgery in the coming weeks. But that hasn't stopped him from adapting beautifully to his new home, thanks to his other very sharp senses!
Morgan now shares Ollie's daily life on social media to raise awareness about adopting animals with disabilities. We wish Ollie all the very best!
