Last September, a dog walked into a fire station in Montgomery County, Texas, in the United States.
Intrigued, the team watched the antics of the animal, who was completely unknown to them. At first, the firefighters thought the dog had got lost and that her owner would come looking for her. But no one came to claim her.
Adorable, the dog, renamed Cookie Marie, quickly won over the hearts of the brigade, as reported by The Dodo.
The dog soon settled into a routine with the firefighters and even went so far as to escort the women to their cars.
A search to find the owners
One day, Cookie Marie returned to the station injured. According to the vet, the dog had been hit by a car.
There was more news. The dog did have owners who lived not far from the station. And without their consent, it wasn't possible to treat Cookie Marie.
Devastated, the team did everything they could to contact the owners so they would officially surrender the animal.
Fortunately, their efforts paid off. And that's how the dog was able to have surgery.
Today, the dog is doing much better and is enjoying her recovery with the firefighters.
