It was a neighbour dispute that took a tragic turn. As reported by The Sun, a British woman who was accused by her neighbour of having a dog that was too noisy decided to have her pet put down.
Last August, the woman received a letter from her landlord informing her that she was breaching the terms of her tenancy agreement.
Her neighbour, a new arrival in the building, had reported that Patch, her 14-year-old Jack Russell, wouldn't stop barking.
"No fewer than 84 barks"
In disagreement, an environmental health officer came to assess the situation on 5th September. In just five minutes, they recorded "no fewer than 84 barks".
In mid-September, the landlord made it clear that the "situation would be monitored and any further incidents could result in further action".
Faced with her neighbour's complaints and fearing she would lose her flat, Sue Johnson decided to have her little dog put to sleep. "I'm devastated. He was my only companion since my husband passed away. He meant everything to me", she said.
When questioned by the British newspaper, the landlord defended themselves, saying they "regretted the situation" but had to "ensure the wellbeing of all our tenants and their neighbours".
"We understand the emotional bond Mrs Johnson had with her pet and we sympathise with the distress caused by this situation", they added.
