In a rubbish skip, a volunteer discovers an unimaginable scene...

When Simone, co-founder of the charity Protect Animals Worldwide, receives a call reporting an abandoned dog in a rubbish skip, she expects the worst. Opening the lid, she comes face to face with a young Pitbull curled around her newborn puppies, their eyes still closed. The scene is heartbreaking: a mother ready to do anything to protect her little ones, thrown away like rubbish.

Simone understands immediately that time is of the essence. The puppies, frozen and motionless, risk not surviving the night. She transports the little family straight away to the charity's emergency clinic, where the team mobilises to warm them up and stabilise them. Thanks to their care, they all gradually regain their strength.

A courageous mum

Named Regina, the dog proved to be exceptionally tender and devoted. Despite the fear and exhaustion, she never strayed from her babies, showering them with attention. "She did everything she could for them," recalls Simone, still moved by the scene.

The lingering smell of rubbish on their coats suggested that the little family had spent several days locked in that skip. But thanks to their courage and the volunteers' kindness, the puppies survived. A few weeks later, they were all adopted into loving families. Regina is still waiting for her forever home in Brazil, where the charity hopes to give her the life she deserves very soon.
