In an emotional Instagram post shared on 27 May, the 23-year-old posted a video of herself kissing Widget, a white and grey Shih Tzu.
She wrote: “Saying goodbye to my forever best friend. Thank you for seventeen joyful years, tiny dancer.”
Heartbroken family
Widget had been part of the Gerber family since Kaia’s childhood. Her mother, supermodel Cindy Crawford, also shared the sad news days earlier, confirming Widget died on 22 May. In her post, Crawford reflected on her own fear of dogs as a child and how adopting Widget and her sister Sugar brought unexpected joy into family life.
“We had to say goodbye to our little girl Widget yesterday,” Crawford wrote. “She was a puppy for 17 years and we will miss her.”
Sisters reunited
The family had previously lost Widget’s sister, Sugar, and Crawford expressed hope that the two dogs were now “eating endless snacks” together.
The post prompted a wave of condolences from fans and celebrities, including Paris Hilton and Paulina Porizkova. Animal charity PETA also sent a message of support, calling Widget a “cherished family member.”
RIP Widget.
