The Bloomfield Animal Shelter NJ works tirelessly to help save stray, sick and injured animals across the New Jersey area.
The team couldn't believe their eyes last week, when they arrived at the shelter and found two dogs tied to the railings.
Terrible circumstances
Cautiously approaching the two male dogs, shelter staff spotted the grey fur covering their muzzles.
Then they spotted the most heartbreaking note their owner had left alongside them.
"Hi. I am sorry but my babies deserve to live their golden years happy and in a good warm home for the winter", it read. "I can't take care of them living on the street. Our home was foreclosed on putting us out on the street. Please take care of them".
Their former owner went on to explain that the boys were Presa Canario brothers, born in 2009.
"We are in good health besides needing to eat more", wrote their owner. "We love people, we love kids. Please keep us together if you can".
Golden oldies in need of love
Bloomfield Animal Shelter shared photos of the almost 15-year-old brothers to Facebook, along with the note.
"While we feel terrible for the circumstances, this is an unacceptable way to turn your pets in, especially when there are no open cages", they warned.
Thankfully, they later updated the post to explain that the pair of golden oldies had found a rescue space, where they will be loved and cared for until the perfect forever home comes forward.
