There are few things more worrying to owners than a missing dog, so when this man finally found his pup after a stressful search, he couldn’t hold back the emotion.

Owner Alan Whitton regularly took his beloved Jack Russell Mitzi for walks around Knighton Woods in Buckhurst Hill and last Wednesday seemed like any other day. Mitzi was happily exploring her surroundings until a Basset Hound raced over and chased her away.

Alan frantically raced after the dogs but lost them before long. He continued his search well in to the evening and as he did so, his sense of dread grew. He had no joy finding little Mitzi and returned the following two days to continue his search.

After an early search on Friday morning, he headed home to complete some life admin as his hopes of finding Mitzi sadly began to fade but at 11am he received a phone call that would change everything.

An important call

The caller told Alan that they were walking their dog close to the area where Mitzi had disappeared and their pooch had taken an interest in a fox hole in the woods. Alan dropped everything and raced to the site. He took one of Mitzi’s squeaky toys and set up camp by the hole.

He was stunned to hear a faint whimpering coming from the hole. Alan and the dog walker started furiously digging and, 50 hours after she disappeared, Mitzi was reunited with her owner.

In the video that has done the rounds on social media, Alan can be seen breaking down in tears as he hugs his pup. He said,

“I just broke down, I was overwhelmed with joy and disbelief, I had started to lose hope.”

We wish them long and happy lives together.
