A dramatic high-speed chase on the M56 ended with an unlikely hiding spot and one determined police dog.
On Sunday morning, officers from the Cheshire Roads Crime Unit attempted to stop a vehicle bearing cloned number plates near Helsby.
Police chase
The driver refused to pull over, instead leading police on a dangerous pursuit along the motorway.
The chase came to a sudden halt when the vehicle’s tyre blew out, forcing the driver and passenger to abandon the car and flee on foot across nearby fields.
Enter Police Dog Vega. Called to assist with the search, the skilled K9 and his handler combed the area and quickly picked up a scent.
Vega gets the bad guys
Vega led officers into dense undergrowth, where the suspects were found hiding behind a pile of muck.
Cheshire and North Wales Police Dogs later joked about the pair’s poor hiding place, writing on Facebook: “Vega 2 Bad Guys 0 #TheNoseKnows.”
Police praised the coordination between units and highlighted the vital role of canine teams in tackling crime.
The incident highlights ongoing efforts to curb vehicle crime and dangerous driving in the region. Vega, it seems, had the final word.
Well done, Vega!
