The call was from the police, reporting a cruel case of abandonment.
Officers had discovered an abandoned house with two dogs left to fend for themselves inside.
A house of horrors
Judging by the state of the property, the three animals – two dogs and a bird – had been abandoned for a very long time. Rescuers rushed to the scene to help, but the condition of the house was far worse than they could ever have imagined.
Tragically, they found one of the dogs and the bird had already passed away. The rescuers promised to give them a proper burial. Miraculously, the other dog had survived. They immediately began to care for him, naming him Gilligan. The poor pooch was terribly thin and starving. Fortunately, his condition was stable enough for him to go to a foster home.
Learning to trust again
Once settled in his foster home, Gilligan's spirits began to lift and he started to trust people again. In just ten days, his weight had almost doubled, going from 5.5 lbs to nearly 9 lbs. He also regained his energy and made wonderful progress thanks to the love and care of his foster family.
And in the most wonderful news, Gilligan has now been adopted into his forever home! His new family has renamed him Paco. He devoured his celebratory meal that evening and spent the rest of the night cuddling with his new family.
